2017 Toyota 86 – Rochester Toyota Dealer Review

The popular Scion FR-S will soon be available as the new Toyota 86. In addition to the new name, this sexy sports car will offer higher performance, revised styling and enhanced fuel economy.

With a lower, wider stance and high-tech revisions to the front and rear body styling, the new 86 is a more aggressive and muscular version of the FR-S. This new model receives standard LED headlamps, daylight running lights, new turn signals, a new fog lamp bezel and a revised bumper. This model will ride on alloy wheels with a unique twisted spoke design and is branded with 86 logos on the front fender badge and inside the front headlamps.

The new 86 logo will also appear inside the cabin on the instrument panel and center hub of the steering column. Granlux material has been used across the instrument panel and door trim for a softer look and feel. The seats have been revised with upscale material with silver stitching and the steering wheel has been updated with integrated audio controls.

New performance enhancements include revised engine and shock tuning and a spring rate change. The six-speed manual transmission model has received a differential gear ratio change that will increase the torque and horsepower. Both the manual and automatic transmission models will be equipped with a Hill Start Assist Control (HAC) to prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards when idling on steep inclines.

Although sports models are rarely synonymous with fuel efficiency the Toyota 86 will offer an EPA-estimated 23 mpg city and 32 mpg highway (six-speed automatic transmission) or 20 city/27 highway (six-speed manual). This new model also has an attractive price starting with a base MSRP of $26,255.
